Why did I create this?
I started this to document my mother's dialect (a language I grew up with) before it disappears.  Calabrese is heavily influenced by French and Spanish and even Greek, because the region was controlled by these powers for centuries until Italy was unified in 1861.  My mother is from a little town called Belmonte (pronounced like "Belimundu") near Paola.

History of Calabria
The Kingdom of the Two Sicilies (11th century to 19th century)
Calabria (from prehistoric to modern times)
Summarized History of Calabria (from prehistoric to modern times)
Another summarized History of Calabria (from prehistoric to modern times)
